At BCM, we believe that strong project delivery goes hand in hand with continuous improvement and responsible operations. Across our projects in West Africa and the Middle East, we continue to implement practical solutions that improve efficiency, support sustainability, and create long-term value for both our clients and local communities.

Sustainable operations across our key projects;

Tonkolili Iron Ore Project, Sierra Leone

Since commencing operations in 2010, BCM has successfully navigated the demanding conditions of one of West Africa’s most challenging mining environments.

Working through heavy wet-season conditions, our teams introduced several operational improvements to maintain productivity and reduce environmental impact. These included effective dewatering systems, improved water runoff management, strategic pit sequencing, and enhanced haul road maintenance to improve both safety and efficiency.

Through these efforts, BCM has continued to deliver stable operations while adapting to changing site conditions responsibly and effectively.

Tarkwa Gold Project, Ghana

At Tarkwa, BCM operates in a hard rock mining environment that requires intensive drill-and-blast activities and high equipment performance.

Since the project began in 2018, our focus has been on operational excellence, workforce development, and sustainable local participation. Key initiatives include ongoing operator and maintenance training, strong maintenance planning, effective water management, and sourcing parts and consumables locally within Ghana to support local businesses and the wider economy.

These efforts have strengthened operational reliability while contributing positively to local economic growth.

Attarat Oil Shale Project, Jordan

The Attarat Oil Shale Project reflects BCM’s commitment to efficiency, partnership, and community development.

Since 2017, BCM has worked closely with a local contractor through a joint venture model while steadily increasing production levels. The project has also created employment and training opportunities for local communities and prioritized local sourcing to strengthen regional supply chains.

Operationally, BCM has improved extraction efficiency through advanced equipment utilization and in-pit crushing and conveying systems, while also managing environmental challenges such as dust control in desert conditions.

Business Improvement Initiative: Fuel Efficiency at Tarkwa

One of BCM’s standout sustainability initiatives has been the Fuel Reduction Initiative at the Tarkwa site.

The program was introduced to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption across operations. Since implementation, fuel usage has been reduced significantly, delivering savings of approximately $1.87 million while also lowering the site’s overall carbon footprint.

This achievement has been driven by a combination of operational improvements, maintenance enhancements, and stronger performance monitoring.

Key measures included:

  • Deployment of Fleet Management Systems to reduce idle time
  • Refresher training for operators
  • Improved blast fragmentation for better excavation efficiency
  • Real-time fuel monitoring systems
  • Haul route optimization and ramp redesign
  • Improved maintenance practices and fuel loss prevention
  • Regular fuel audits and KPI performance tracking

Together, these initiatives continue to support safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Across all our operations, BCM remains focused on:

  • Data-driven decision-making
  • Workforce training and development
  • Local source and community engagement
  • Responsible environmental management

By combining operational excellence with sustainable practices, BCM continues to deliver projects that create long-term value while supporting safer and more efficient mining operations.
